Hey, I’m Thanos Apollo.

I’m a medical student, my hobbies include:

  • Programming
  • Boxing

I originate from Athens, Greece. Despite that, I view my self more of a nomad since I’ve spend most of my life moving to different cities & countries, which is something that I’ve enjoyed and plan to keep doing.

Currently I reside in Sofia, Bulgaria.

My Interests

Medicine

Medicine is an incredible field that has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to science and the way in which it can help us understand and improve the world around us. As a medical student, I am in the unique position of experiencing all the hard work and endless studying that goes into becoming a physician, while also seeing glimpses of the profound impact that medicine can have on people’s lives. It can be incredibly challenging at times, but there is truly nothing else I would rather be doing.

But what is it about medicine that I find so compelling?

For starters, medicine allows us to help people in incredibly meaningful ways. As a physician, you have the opportunity to impact the lives of your patients in ways that few other professions can truly match. Whether you are treating a chronic condition, offering comfort and care during a difficult time, or even saving someone’s life, the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives is what drew me to medicine initially.

The study of medicine is a journey of self-discovery and growth, where I am constantly challenged to expand my horizons and push beyond my limits. It is a path that requires discipline, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

Programming

I started programming out of necessity, at first to create small web pages back when I was 14 and later when I had to make a couple of anki addons for my personal use.

I dislike proprietary software. I believe in having actual ownership over the products you purchase, today’s tech companies are taking advantage of the tech illiterate masses and lack of regulation.

I enjoy programming in Lisp and spend most of my time in GNU Emacs, which I’m using for almost everything, note taking, reading books and much more…

Boxing

To the untrained eye boxing might seem just like a gladiator fight, bloody & messy without much meaning except entertainment.

For me boxing is the ‘sweet science’

There is nothing that I find more mentally stimulating than boxing, it’s the only sport that didn’t bore me in my teenage years and manage to keep me interested, since it required 100% of my focus.

I dislike many aspects of the professional boxing scene since it’s focused purely on entertainment, but there are some pro fighters that I enjoy watching.

I prefer watching olympic/amateur boxing fights

I’ve competed in more than 25 amateur boxing bouts, hopefully when I have more free time from my studies I can participate in a couple more.
